Interactive Floor Plan - ET ’08 Seminar & Exposition
Challenge
Create an online interactive expo floor plan from a PDF. The Client wanted to show potential exhibitors booth location and size; allow exhibitors to see where potential competitors were; and show visitors where exhibitors would be located and give them exhibitor details.
Solution
We developed a user friendly 3-D model of an interactive floor plan using a combination of Flash, javascript, ColdFusion and SQL server. Show attendees and exhibitors can quickly view the Expo Floor Plan, find booth locations, exhibitor details, and information about available booths.
Results
The main challenge lay in getting Flash to work with the database. There is no easy method to connecting Flash to a SQL database and extracting information. We had to come up with the code, so no components or snippets were used. The combination provides real time results, and as soon as a change is made to the database the changes are reflected online.
